What is RSS?

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an easy way to receive automatic updates from PTJ Online and other Web sites in one place. When you subscribe to an RSS feed, instead of going to PTJ Online, the Web site will send your RSS reader an RSS feed that includes article titles, abstracts or summaries, and links to the full-text version. RSS feeds are special Web pages formatted for RSS readers. An RSS reader, sometimes called an RSS aggregator, is a program that displays the content of the feeds to which you subscribe.

PTJ Online offers feeds for the current issue and the TOCs of future issues as well as Online Now! articles, sections such as Research Reports and Case Reports, and Podcasts. For more details on RSS, click here.

What is an RSS reader?

To receive an RSS feed you will need an RSS reader—software programs that collect, organize, and display RSS feeds. The RSS reader receives all the RSS feeds you have selected and displays them in a format similar to e-mails displayed in your inbox. There are many different RSS readers, some of which are accessed using a browser and some of which can be downloaded to your computer. Once you have selected an RSS reader, you can sign up to receive the latest from PTJ Online via RSS. Some examples are listed below and some are available for free:

Windows Mac OS X Web
RSS Reader
Feed Reader
Sharp Reader
Awasu
FeedDemon
Med Reader
NewsFire
NetNewsWire
GreatNews
Blognavigator
Google Reader

Some browsers, including Firefox, Opera, and Safari, have functionality which automatically picks up RSS feeds for you. For more details on these, please check their Web sites. PTJ does not endorse any particular RSS reader.
